Where did you begin your hair career?
My mum's a hairdresser and I was always drawn towards a career where I get to be myself, connect with people and create.
What do you love about being in the salon?
I love the people, the creativity and helping people bring out their unbridled authentic identity through their hair.
Your Instagram bio says “wolf, pixies, shags and mullets” – Why are these your fav styles to cut?
I love tailoring cuts to highlight my clients' personalities and working with their natural textures and movement to elevate their style.
Have they always been your speciality?
I’ve moved into cutting shags and mullets only in the past couple of years. After being classically trained in cutting I’ve loved the freedom razor cutting has given me.
What are the non-negotiable tools and products in your kit?
My razor, my scissors and my lucky comb! Curl cream and sea salt spray forever!
Ultimate hair tip?
Get a cut that grows out beautifully and is low maintenance to recreate at home.
Who are your hair icons?
CUSHLA (lol)
What is a hair career high?
I’ve had so many! It’s been an incredible journey and I’ve worked with a number of top salons and learnt so much. My absolute highlight would be learning to cut a shag with my bestie (lol).
A funny moment or the worst fuck up?
When I had just started my apprenticeship at Stephan Marr, I was colouring a client’s hair and halfway through I ran out of colour. So I went and mixed up more but in a completely different colour. Literally half their head was 3 shades different.
As a hairstylist, I’m going to assume you’ve experimented with your own hair. What's a style that you look back on and cringe at or that makes you LOL?
Oh dear… yep! Bleached blonde pixie was probably my most daring but you only live once!
Album on repeat?
Harmonia & eno 76 currently but totally depends on my mood.
Go-to product on your shower shelf?
Davines Curl Cleansing Cream
Most recent online purchase?
My white Margiela Tabi boots.
What’s on the horizon for you?
I’m really loving where I’m at right now. I’ve been so lucky to have the opportunity to work at Colleen!
And lastly, how can people find you? What days are you in the salon at colleen?
Currently Thursdays and Saturdays but looking to add another in the new year. Book in at colleen.nz
