Hair Candy for Festival Season

Look hot and stay cool at your favourite summer festival with muso-inspired hair accessories.

Whether you’re heading to Electric Avenue in Christchurch (February 21/22), Womad in New Plymouth (March 14-16), Cross Street Music Festival in Auckland (March 8) or even Homegrown in Wellington (March 14-15), these clips, bows and slides add a touch of fun to a festival look while also being practical on hot sunny days.

For those heading to Laneway in Auckland on Waitangi Day, look to these pop girlies performing on-stage for some hair accessory inspiration.

CLASSIC CLAW CLIPS, LIKE CLAIRO

Clairo's razor cut shag is an influential cut, with its soft curls and cutesy bags. For her Charm tour, she's generally worn it out and free, but on-stage you'll sometimes see her sporting a practical claw clip in a half-up, half-down look.

HAIR BOWS, BIG AND SMALL

Remi Wolf's beauty look is undeniably expressive and playful, from her signature colourful eye makeup to gorgeous full curls. - sometimes adorned with tiny ribbons.

SCRUNCHIES

When she's not wearing her gorgeous curls, Olivia Dean is a fan of the oversized scrunchie - the bigger the better.

CLIP AND SLIDE(S)

Beabadoobee is known for her experimental hair, from earlier blue/green/red shades to today's shiny jet black style with bangs. She doesn't often wear accessories, preferring to keep her long hair free, but sometimes will opt for 90s style slides or clips paired with tiny braids.

Charli xcx's brat era hair was all about big, long masses of hair rather than accessories, but the superstar has embraced vintage-style clips in the past (this was from 2020) that work in with her club kid aesthetic.
